Hooray! The bears are back for their annual Ted Fest at the Old Kirk, Nethy Bridge. This popular and unique event will open on Friday 5th October until Sunday 14th October, 11am – 5pm. With free entry, free parking and lots to keep the family entertained a visit to the Kirk is a must.

The displays will include the Ju-bear-lee Tea Party, Team GBeaR, Pooh Corner, Polar Bears on Ice, Nethy Neigh-bears and also learn of the “Teddies for Tragedy” charity. Activities include a drawing competition for the children, bear quiz, and 2 bear jig-saws to help complete. A family “Bears” DVD will be shown at 2pm each day; have a go on the tombola and browse through our second-hand books. A selection of crafts and classic toys are for sale and tea/coffee/juice and home-baking available. There’s even a “Cuddle Corner” with a selection of cuddly bears for the younger visitors to enjoy and the popular “Bid for a Bear” returns with a delightful selection of beautiful bears up for auction.

Olwen Billington, Organiser of the event said “I am always amazed at the response to this event; adults introduce their teddies and explain how they acquired them, how long they have been part of the family; teddies visit who have accompanied their owners on their Gap Year and some people won’t even contemplate going on holiday without them, so the Ted Fest isn’t just for children, it’s for everyone and we look forward to welcoming you all and more importantly your furry friends!” Olwen also commented “last year we had 372 teddies on display in various guises and themes and this year we want to beat this total. So, we are appealing for more teddies to be loaned to us; if you would like to participate then please attach a label to your bear/s showing your name and address and contact me on 01479 821944 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to arrange delivery/collection.”

Once you have visited this event, you can’t bear to leave!

Well it is 7.50 in the morning of the Nethy Bridge Highland Games. It looks like a beautiful day so the crowds should be out in force. And so will the volunteers and directors of the Abernethy Old Kirk Association, manning the stall at the Games and the Old Kirk too. So if you decide to visit the Games today why not pop along to the Old Kirk later and see all the displays on there too?

The volunteers and directors will be happy to answer any of your questions.
